April Fools!

GutenBrain isn’t a reality just yet. Today, it’s a fun idea we are excited to share with the WordPress community. We’re hoping you had a laugh reading, or, like us, caught a glimpse of what may one day be a reality.

After many months of keeping this a strictly ‘stealth mode’ project, we are now delighted to announce a project we have been working on that is particularly close to our hearts, a technologically advanced headset we call, GutenBrain.

Since the WordPress Gutenberg editor was launched in December 2018, there have been a host of plugins and libraries created with the aim of making the change over from the classic WordPress editor easier.

We’ve taken things a step further with a completely different kind of plugin aimed at revolutionising the WordPress editing experience; a ground-breaking headset that uses a BCI (brain-computer interface) and AI to control blocks and content within the Gutenberg editor, simply by thinking about it.

The pioneering patent approved headset, named GutenBrain, has taken months of internal innovation from the 93digital development team, with an extensive future development roadmap still planned.

WordPress users can wear the wireless headset, and after going through a calibration exercise using the connected GutenBrain WordPress plugin, begin to start creating content using the Gutenberg editor.

The ‘brain-computer interface’ monitors Electroencephalography EEG activity, and the technology developed by 93digital converts this into outputs that can be used to control GutenBrain.

The headset is due to go on sale in Q4 just in the UK initially, with a recommended retail price of £930 and international shipping and support planned for the start of 2020.

Founder of 93digital Alex Price said, “We were inspired by the possibilities of the new Gutenberg editor, and we see GutenBrain as the next generation of WordPress editing experience. We’re first and foremost a WordPress agency, with no aspirations of building hardware, but we were super excited at the opportunity of sharing this with the WordPress community. We plan to change the future of WordPress content editing forever.”

Whilst still in early beta, the London based WordPress agency have created a product page where you can find out more about how the GutenBrain headset works, and sign up to join the waiting list once the product goes on sale towards the end of 2019.
