Today we interviewed Dev Sharma, an active member of the WordPress community and founder of the WordPress resource, news and blog site WPKube.

When and why did you start using WordPress?

I started working online in 2008, when I was looking for a platform/software to build my first website. I tried different platforms, including but not limited to Joomla, Drupal, and WordPress. After a week or two, I decided to go with WordPress because of the amazing support I received. I started exploring and realized how easy it was to use. Plus there were hundreds of free plugins available to solve the common WordPress problems.

What was your inspiration behind WPKube?

WPKube was a side-project I started, when I was looking to get more clients. But it ended up becoming more than that, and eventually I stopped taking clients and started focusing efforts on my own products and affiliate marketing.

Why do you think WordPress has become so popular?

Because of the so many amazing people involved in the community. There is lots of software out there that basically tries to do the same thing, but the reason WordPress has become so popular is because of the amazing community behind it. Of course, WordPress is a powerful platform, but I think if it wasn’t for the people involved, then WordPress may not have been so successful.

If you could give advice to someone looking to start out in the WordPress business world, what would it be?

Do amazing work and connect with other people.

Apart from WPKube, what other blogs or news sites do you like to read?

QuickSprout, Backlinko, & SearchEngineJournal.

Where do you want to be in 5 years time?

Running a million dollar business or maybe working for an awesome company – not sure :). The next few years are going to be exciting ones as an entrepreneur, and I look forward to see what life has in store for me.
