Website redesign and development to improve UX for current ILPA members and attract new members
The Immigration Law Practitioner’s Association (ILPA) is a professional association and registered charity, the majority of whose members are barristers, solicitors, advocates and OISC regulated advisers practising in all aspects of immigration, asylum and nationality law founded in 1984.
ILPA came to 93digital with a complicated site structure, which resulted in its members struggling to find resources and information that they needed. ILPA’s previous website was outdated in design and technically, as it was inaccessible on mobile devices. In addition, background systems for membership renewables and training bookings were admin heavy for the internal team, including the integration with Salesforce. ILPA were keen to improve their members area as it is key for their business to be able to provide a good service to their current, and prospective members.
Discovery & definition
The project began with an in depth discovery & definition phase to outline key priorities of the project. During this stage, 93digital kicked-off with a workshop involving key stakeholders, following which we focused on user research & interviews, defining a sitemap for the project, and providing solution architecture and technical consultancy to analyse the more complex parts of the project and clearly identify requirements. This included detailed discovery and definition into the WordPress integration with Salesforce CRM.
UX & Design
As ILPA members previously struggled to find the information that they need, the 93digital design team created a simpler and easier to use website with intuitive UX. With IPLA having so much content and so many resources for members on their site, this was important for users to be able to easily find the information that they need. This would in turn attract more new members by clearly promoting ILPA services and training via the website.
The 93digital team built a training/events calendar and booking system via a ‘shopping cart’, along with a member directory, and focused on improving the overall digital experience offered by the member area. This included the document repository, membership renewals and event/course bookings, in part achieved through integration with Salesforce CRM. The site is built to be easy to manage, accessible and mobile friendly.
WordPress & Salesforce Integration
In order to reduce admin for the internal ILPA team and allow them to keep working with some existing workflows and processes that rely on Salesforce, 93digital focused on Salesforce CRM integration. This included for membership applications to create a smoother process, but also managing some sections of site content such as events registration.
Soon after launch, ILPA reached their record number of monthly users in the past decade, topping 19k users in May 2020, beating their previously monthly record of 9k by 110%.
Feedback from ILPA site users has acknowledged that it is ‘easy to navigate’. Users have commented on the clear, simple, modernised design and improved site map. One ILPA member said: “I love that when we log in, we’ll see upcoming things we’re booked on and the whole thing feels very user friendly”.
ILPA has a very large number of resources and the process of moving this over to the new website went smoothly and we are able to search and retrieve them so much more easily, and the value of this archive is much clearer to the members. 93digital did a great job on the integration with our Salesforce systems and our membership, and event management is much improved.
“We went live with the new site just as the first Covid-19 lockdown started and having the new website helped hugely with our changing work practises, and we were able to support our members and keep them up to date with the quick changing legal environment in a way our old website would never have allowed. We are delighted now to be able to use the new website as a great marketing tool for potential new members and look forward to working with 93digital on next phase developments.”Helen Williams, Membership Manager, ILPA
